MEAT FOR THE WEEK
KING SAUL
Have you ever thought about what God would say about you if He evaluated your life? We have the immense benefit of seeing God’s evaluation of a man who was the choice of the people of Israel: King Saul.
So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance. But he did not inquire of the LORD; therefore He killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.
~1 Chronicles 10:13-14
There were two charges leveled against Saul: He did not keep the word of the Lord and he went to seek guidance from a medium instead of inquiring of the Lord. Throughout the Old Testament, the mark of a godly king was that he sought the guidance of the Lord. God will always give direction to those who seek Him. God had given Saul many means of seeking His will: the voice of the prophet, the indwelling Holy Spirit, and the law given by Moses. However he turned away. We fnd ourselves in the same position when we fail to meditate on God’s Word and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Instead let us have a prayer like that of the Psalmist:
Show me Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day.
~ Psalm 25:4-5
